Two people are dead following two separate, single-vehicle crashes in the Big Sandy Valley.

 

The first of these crashes happened this past Wednesday on Indian Creek Road, at Virgie. 51-year-old Michael Tackett, of Virgie, was driving when his vehicle went off the side of the road, striking a rock embankment and a tree in the process. He died at the scene of the crash.

 

The second crash occurred this past Friday afternoon along US 23 at Betsy Layne. According to officers, a car struck a rock embankment which ejected both occupants from the vehicle. 37-year-old Casey Brown, of Betsy Layne, died at the scene. The other occupant, 34-year-old Cammie Little, of Pikeville, was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

 

The Kentucky State Police are currently investigating both cases.
