Officials Searching For Inmate Who Escaped

Police are currently asking for the public’s assistance in finding a man they say escaped recently from a Southern Kentucky Jail.

Officials received reports on Sunday night that a Clinton County inmate was missing from the Wayne County Detention Center. The inmate in question is Joseph Peyton, of Albany.

Initially, officers couldn’t tell how long Peyton had been gone. Inmate logs indicated he was present when medication was given out earlier that day, but video footage showed he hadn’t been in his bunk area since Friday. Officers then learned that Peyton had left the recreation area on Friday afternoon.

On Monday morning, officials informed the public that a pickup truck was stolen from a parking lot, around a mile away from the detention center. Deputies believe the truck may have been stolen by Peyton. The truck was a white 2001 Dodge Ram with a broken windshield.

If you see Peyton or this vehicle, you are asked to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Police Department, or any other law enforcement agency.
