A man and woman out of Letcher County have both pleaded guilty to charges that connect them to a scheme to fraudulently obtain pandemic benefits.

27-year-old Madison Balo and 21-year-old Kyler Sullivan, both of Jenkins, pleaded guilty this past Friday to charges of wire fraud and identity theft conspiracy. They had previously been accused of filing for a $10,000 advance on a fraudulent business loan. Balo is said to face multiple charges for repeating that scheme a total of six times.

The pair has also been accused of stealing someone else’s $1,200 stimulus payment.

A judge will now decide whether or not to accept the pleas before a sentencing date.
