A man out of Pike County is now facing a felony assault charge after he allegedly attacked a motel clerk.

Pikeville Police Officials were called to the Hatfield and McCoy Lodge at around 6:00 AM on Thursday. Upon their arrival, officers discovered blood on the office door, a pool of blood in the lobby, and the clerk- who was covered in blood.

The man informed officers that 50-year-old Allen Todd Elswick approached the clerk’s office to ask for his mail. When he was informed he would have to wait until business hours, he is said to have pushed the clerk into a cabinet before beating and kicking him in the head.

When officers confronted Elswick, he allegedly admitted to beating the clerk because of demons being inside the man’s head. He also allegedly informed officers he had used meth earlier.

Elswick was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, which carries a potential 5-10 year prison sentence.
