A woman out of Floyd County is now in jail on a charge of felony assault. This coming after she allegedly slashed a man’s throat from ear to ear.

The incident happened at around 9:30 PM on Monday night on Cane Fork Road, off of Arkansas Creek, near Martin.

36-year-old April Osborne, of Hi Hat, is accused of walking up behind a man she didn’t know as he was bent over, working on a motorcycle, and attacking him with a knife. Afterwards, she is said to have walked out into the road before passing out. This led to multiple emergency calls from people who thought she might be dead.

Osborne is said to have initially denied responsibility, and after being shown the knife sheath that was found in her pocket, she allegedly told officers she cut the man because she thought he was attacking a police officer. She also informed deputies she gave the knife to someone else for them to hold onto.

She now faces a potential 10-20-year prison sentence for first-degree-assault, if she is convicted. She also faces charges of public intoxication, evidence tampering, and giving officials a false name.

The victim was transported to Our Lady of The Way ARH in Martin for treatment. There have been no updates on his condition, but police say he was able to talk to the officers and give a positive ID on Osborne as his attacker, after being shown a photo.
