A Floyd County man was recently arrested on charges that violate the sex-offender registry. These include attending a baseball game at a ballpark and failure to update his home address with the registry.
On May 10th, a Kentucky State Trooper responded to an anonymous call reporting a registered sex-offender was watching baseball games at Minnie Ball Park. There were several children playing multiple different sports at the time the trooper responded. 67-year-old Rodney Newsome was on the basketball court.
Newsome approached the trooper and told him that he was there to watch the teams play, but failed to provide the names of any team that was present. Newsome also told the trooper he didn’t personally know anyone that was present at the park. The trooper’s investigation revealed the change in address that Newsome had failed to update.
Newsome was convicted in 2003 on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree sodomy, incest and second-degree rape. He was sentenced to serve seven yeas in prison and ordered to become a lifetime registrant on the sex-offender registry.
Newsome was released from jail after a $25,000 bond was partially secured.
