
Kentucky State Police reported on May 31 that a body discovered recently has been recognized as that of a missing Floyd County man.
Gordon McKinney, 54, of Harold, was reported missing on May 12 after last being seen on May 9. According to KSP Post 9, the body discovered on May 25 was identified as his.
According to a separate statement from KSP, the agency got a report indicating that a human body had been found around 3 p.m. on May 25.
According to the statement, investigators arrived at the area and discovered an unidentified body in the Levisa Fork River after conducting a preliminary investigation. The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification, according to the statement.
The cause of McKinney’s death is still being investigated, according to the statement.
Det. Mark Branham is leading the investigation, which was aided at the site by KSP Post 9 members, the Prestonsburg Police Department, and the Prestonsburg Fire Department.
