A man out of Virginia is accused of stealing a truck and proceeding to lead police on a chase that resulted in the closing of US 23 in Coal Run Village for most of a day.

51-year-old Alvin Rife, of Jewel Ridge, Virginia, is accused of stealing a Chevy Silverado from the parking lot of Road-Tested Garage. The theft is said to have taken place on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after the truck was reported stolen, officers with the Pikeville Police Department spotted it on Hambley Boulevard. They attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it sped away. Rife sped through Cedar Creek and Hurricane Creek before making a return to US 23 at Boldman. He is said to have then driven back towards Pikeville.

During the course of the chase, Rife is accused of nearly striking several officers. HE was finally arrested at Coal Run Village.

Upon his arrest, Rife is said to have had a white powder in his nose. He allegedly informed police that he had snorted Norco in addition to coming down from meth and heroin.

He was charged with theft, DUI, fleeing police, wanton endangerment, and other charges.
