According to a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy, a Thelma woman was detained on July 4th after she allegedly overdosed on methamphetamine while caring for her nine-year-old son.
The deputy was sent to a home on Buskirk Drive in Thelma in response to a report of a probable drug overdose when he found Kimberly Hayden, 44, of Thelma, “sitting in the floor of her bedroom with her nine-year-old son sitting on the bed,” according to the citation.
The deputy noted in the citation that Hayden was “shaking and rocking back and forth” as well as “mumbling,” and he recommended Hayden’s 19-year-old daughter to take the child outside.
The deputy claimed that he made an effort to converse with Hayden but that she “acted like she couldn’t understand what (he) was saying” and that, when he repeatedly asked her what she had taken, her response was always “nothing,” the deputy said.
According to the citation, Hayden needed assistance to stand up and had trouble moving around the house without losing track of where she was going. As a result, EMS workers gave her Narcan on the front porch of the house before taking her to Paintsville Appalachian Regional Healthcare.
According to the citation, the deputy saw a “round metal container commonly used to carry drugs in” and a plastic bag with what appeared to be methamphetamine residue inside of it as Hayden’s father was searching through her handbag for her ID. According to the citation, Hayden’s father allegedly told the deputy that there was a “pipe” in the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom where Hayden was discovered; however, it later turned out to be a blue plastic straw with residue inside.
After receiving a clear medical report at Paintsville ARH, Hayden was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where she was booked on charges of endangering the welfare of a juvenile, first-degree and first-offense possession of a prohibited substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
