One man out of Claiborne County is now facing a list of charges following an incident at a Knox County home.

Police received a call on Tuesday concerning a possible domestic disturbance at a home on Martin Crawford Lane in Fla Lick.

Upon their arrival, the person who called with the complaint met officers at the door of the home. At that same time, the suspect, 20-year-old John Brandon Gray, of New Tazwell, TN, was attempting to run out the back door. When one of the deputies spotted him, he is said to have ran back inside the home, locking the door behind him. The other deputy ran to the back door to assist. Gray is said to have run out of the front door of the home at that point, running directly towards the vehicle he arrived at the home in.

Police say Gray attempted to get into the passenger-side door of the vehicle, but failed to do so. He then attempted to gain access to the driver’s-side, where another person was said to already be sitting. Gray allegedly leaned into the window of the car, put the vehicle into drive, and proceeded to attempt to run-over the officers who were trying to arrest him. The person who was already inside the vehicle is said to have been holding the brake at the time.

Both deputies surrounded the car, requesting for Gray to stop what he was doing. When he failed to comply with the officers’ orders, one deputy broke out the passenger-side window and, after a brief struggle, managed to taze the suspect.

Gray was transported to the Barbourville ARH for treatment. After being cleared, he was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of a police officer, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

He is currently being held in the Knox County Detention Center.
