A former mayor of Prestonsburg, 65-year-old Jerry Fannin, was arrested on Monday on charges of felony theft and burglary.
Fannin is accused of entering into a woman’s garage where he is said to have walked out, carrying several items with him. The items in question were said to be valued at over $1,000.
Fannin also faces a charge of misdemeanor harassment in a separate case after being accused of continually contacting a man for the express purpose of harassing and annoying him.
Previously, Fannin served as the City of Prestonsburg’s mayor until 2014 when he was replaced by the current mayor; Les Stapleton.
Fannin did not deny the charge in court, saying he couldn’t remember committing a crime due to lingering effects caused by two strokes he is said to have suffered in 2016.
Fannin is scheduled to appear in court on August 1st for arraignment on these new charges.
