Two current Kentucky State Police Troopers as well as one former Kentucky State Police Trooper were indicted on Wednesday for use of excessive force, conspiring to cover it up, and illegally entering a home.

A federal grand jury out of London returned a superseding indictment that charged current Trooper, 28-year-old Jeremy Elliote and former Trooper, 30-year-old Derrek Lovett, with willfully depriving an arrestee of their right to be free from unreasonable searches. Current Trooper, 32-year-old Michael L. Howell was also named in the indictment after previously being indicted for separate charges of conspiracy of obstruction.

All three men were charged with conspiracy and obstruction in the indictment.

The indictment additionally alleged that Elliotte and Lovett assaulted a victim without a legitimate reason, with the assault resulting in injury. The indictment also alleged that Howell worked with the other two men in an effort to conceal the true nature and circumstances surrounding the force. The three men are said to have developed a cover story. Elliotte also allegedly entered a home without a warrant.

A court date for the three men has not yet been set, but each man faces up to 20-years in federal prison. Elliotte and Lovett additionally face up to 10-years for violating the victim’s civil rights, with Elliotte facing an additional year for illegally entering a home.
