A man out of Pike County was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly showed up to a school with a gun.
Officials received a report that 45-year-old Bucky Smith, of Phelps, was on Phelps High School property. He was allegedly acting strangely and talking loudly. Smith had previously been told not to return to the school.
Upon his arrival to the scene, the deputy noticed Smith had a .40 caliber Glock 23 in his possession. The deputy ordered Smith to put the gun on the ground before placing him under arrest. The gun is said to have been loaded with 12 rounds, including one in the chamber.
Smith is now charged with possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony punishable by up to five-years in prison.
