A boy from Boone County has donated more than 500 books to a school in Eastern Kentucky.
11 year old Owen Crawford of Boone County teamed up with his favorite pizza restaurant, for Operation Bookdrop, a book drive in order to give back to kids in need.
Due to flooding that occurred in July, Martha Jane Potter Elementary School in Letcher County lost 10,900 library books.
Through social media, Owen’s mom reached out to the Librarian of the school, Krystal Quillen, after seeing a Facebook post. Owen’s mom asked Quillen if Owen could host a book drive to help the school.
The book drive was able to collect over 500 book donations for the Martha Jane Potter Elementary School Library.
Owen said it’s sad and tragic that Eastern Kentucky is not receiving enough help and that he hopes Operation Bookdrop benefits the community and gives children a chance to learn about new things.
