Kentucky State Police have arrested 43-year-old Karen Clemmons in connection to the death of an 83-year-old woman from Jackson County. Clemmons has been charged with murder.
Mary King Abrams was found dead on the night of July 23, inside of her home on Rice Hill Road in McKee.
Detective Ethan Lakes acquired surveillance video from a gas station called fill-ups, a gas station that is just down the road from Abram’s home. The video depicts Clemmons riding as a passenger in a ford escape, with the vehicle being driven by the victim on the morning of July 22, the day before Abrams was found dead.
Detective Lakes discovered a TV that had been stolen from Abrams’s home and KSP states that the Ford Escape from the surveillance video was also stolen from the victim’s home.
According to an arrest citation, Clemmons admitted to driving the Ford Escape just two days after Abrams was found dead, in order to sell the TV stolen from victim’s home. She was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property.
Clemmons was being lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center. Staff on Friday notified Detective Lakes that Clemmons wanted to talk him about the murder of Abrams.
Also according to the arrest citation, Detective Lakes had gone to the Jackson County Detention Center to interview Clemmons. Clemmons confessed to the murder of Abrams during the interview. Clemmons stated she killed Abrams by stabbing her one time with a knife.
The investigation is ongoing.
