One Person Dead Following ATV Crash

An update from the Delbarton Volunteer Fire Department: 

On Sunday, September 4th, 2022, Station 200 members were alerted by Mingo 911 to a possible ATV Accident with injuries and ejection in the area of Taylorville, WV at 03:04. Station 200 responded with ATV 206 and 9 personnel at 03:08. 

Mingo 911 advised station 200 that they were attempting to gather further information on the exact location of this incident, as the caller was not from the area and unaware of their location or surroundings. Mingo 911 also advised the caller reported that one of the victims of the crash could be possibly DOA. 

Station 200 asked for Matewan Fire Department to be dispatched for mutual aid to assist in locating the incident. 

ATV 206 entered the hills with the limited information provided to them at 03:14 and began attempting to locate the incident. Mingo 911 advised the caller found a trail marker and stated the incident occurred on trail 26 between the Buffalo Mountain/Devil Anse Connector and the Trail 26, 27, and 29 intersection. All members proceeded to trail 26 and began searching for the incident. 

ATV 206 located the incident and marked on scene at 03:41 with Chief 221 assuming command of the incident. Shortly there after, Command reported to Mingo 911 that the situation was “Code Black” and to notify the Office of the State Medical Examiner. 

The victims were transported out of the hills and turned over care to STAT EMS of West Virginia Medic 22 after the investigation of the incident. 

Station 200 cleared the scene and returned to service at 05:24.
