FEMA Announces Public Assistance Grants

fema-2

An update form FEMA:

A final public notice is now available that addresses FEMA’s intention to reimburse county and local utilities, sewer and water districts for repairs of infrastructure damaged by storms that occurred from Dec. 31, 2021, through Jan. 2, 2022.

The president signed a major disaster declaration Feb. 27, 2022, enabling FEMA to pay for eligible repair costs with Public Assistance grants. The utility damage resulted from severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding and landslides during the incident period.

The final public notice addresses FEMA’s decision to fund the repair of certain facilities located in floodplains. FEMA determined that the only practical alternative was to restore utility infrastructure in its pre-disaster location. Other alternatives involved relocating or abandoning utility corridors, which would have had social and economic impacts on local communities.

The repair projects were in the following disaster-designated counties: Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Christian, Clay, Floyd, Green, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Owsley, Pike and Taylor.

The notice is now posted on FEMA’s Kentucky disaster website at https://www.fema.gov/disaster-federal-register-notice/dr-4643-ky-public-notice-001.

Interested persons may submit comments, questions or requests for project-specific maps by writing to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Region 4, 3003 Chamblee-Tucker Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30341, or by emailing FEMA-R4EHP@fema.dhs.gov.

FEMA is required by law to share the public notice of its intent to provide federal assistance and grant opportunities through its Public Assistance program and its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
