A Southern Kentucky man is now facing charges after officials claim he nearly ran over a sheriff’s deputy during a chase.
Around 11:00 PM on Tuesday, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department were searching for a suspect along Surrey Hill Road.
During the search, the officers noticed a driver whom they recognized as having an active arrest warrant. After informing the driver to stop his vehicle, the driver instead took off, nearly hitting one of the officers in the process.
A chase ensued, lasting from Surrey Hill Road to Pearl Smith Road, where the suspect’s motor blew up, which ended the chase.
The driver, 38-year-old Bryan Massengale, of Monticello, proceeded to run away from officials on-foot, but was quickly apprehended.
A subsequent search of the man’s vehicle uncovered marijuana and a suboxone film.
Massengale now faces charges of wanton endangerment, two-counts of fleeing or evading, reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance. Massengale now faces those charges in addition to the charges he faces in his previous warrant.
He is currently being held in the Wayne County Detention Center.
