Nonprofit Organization Awards Flood Impacted Communities More than $5 Million

The nonprofit organization, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, announced Monday that they have awarded more than $5.3 million in grants to flood impacted communities.

According to the Foundation, $1.2 million was directed towards the Housing Can’t Wait initiative, to build 16 new homes in Breathitt, Knott, Letcher and Perry counties.

$2,150,650 was donated to flood impacted individuals and families, representing over 21,000 adults and children. Foundation CEO Gerry Roll said it’s likely that there are thousands more they still haven’t reached.

Over $2.6 million went towards various businesses, social enterprises, nonprofits, family farmers, and family resource centers. $150,000 of the $2.6 million was split among six Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky Affiliate Community Foundation funds.
