Construction has begun on a new project to strengthen Panbowl Dam in Breathitt County, that will cost $6.7 million. Following recent flooding, concerns have rose about the dam’s stability.

The northbound lane of KY-15 between Brewer drive and Lakeside Drive across the dam has been closed for the project.

The project has been blocked off with a concrete barrier and the northbound traffic has been moved into the center turn lane.

The speed limit has been reduced to 35 miles per hour in this area.

Officials are telling drivers to use caution when passing through this area and to expect delays.

The project is expected to be completed by June of next year.
