Pike County Man Sentenced To 10-Years In Prison Following Incident In 2020

A man out of Pike County was recently sentenced to 10-years in prison. This coming after an incident in 2020, in which he fired a gun near a state trooper who had come to his house.

 

35-year-old Cory Whitehead, of Pikeville, is said to have grabbed his gun when he saw the trooper approaching. The officer also drew his firearm and ordered Whitehead to drop the gun. Whitehead is said to have instead taken cover, with the gun going off, causing the trooper to return fire. Whitehead was shot in the hand.

 

He pleaded guilty to first-degree wanton endangerment for firing his weapon, as well as felon in possession of a firearm- based on a previous robbery conviction.

 

He is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center, awaiting transfer to the state prison system.
