A former police officer with the Huntington Police Department was named in a four-count indictment alleging sexual assault and the abuse of a juvenile.

34-year-old Christopher Adam Boyer, of Wayne County, was indicted by a Wayne County grand jury earlier this week on charges that stem from an investigation conducted by the West Virginia State Police.

An alleged incident is said to have taken place on February 13th, which was the same day that police say Boyer resigned.

Officers say that Boyer gave no explanation for why he was resigning. They later discovered a criminal investigation was underway for an alleged criminal incident that had occurred outside of their jurisdiction.

Boyer is facing charges for both sexual assault and abuse involving a juvenile, among others.
