State Police Recover Over $40K Following Internet Scam Investigation

An update from the Kentucky State Police:

 

On October 24, 2022, a Kentucky State Police Post 5 detective received a complaint about an internet scam in Trimble County. The victim had been scammed into sending $520.00 to a fictitious computer protection program he was told he needed during a telephone call.

 

The victim was instructed to send money to a PO box in Atlanta, Georgia. Detective Dave Roberts contacted the US Postal Service and obtained the information for the subject who controlled the PO box. Throughout his investigation, Detective Roberts determined that the box holder, a resident of Atlanta, had been receiving money from numerous subjects from various locations throughout the United States. It was determined the funds were then forwarded out of the country.

 

More than $40,000 was recovered as a result of this investigation. Kentucky State Police was assisted in the investigation by the US Postal Service. This is an ongoing investigation.
