A man out of Knox County is now facing charges after police say he got into an altercation with a deputy and allegedly tried to hit him with a metal object.
The incident took place on Pea Ridge Road, in Artemus, on Monday night.
An officer is said to have arrived in the area to serve a warrant to 34-year-old Daniel Dean, of Barbourville for drug-related charges.
Upon seeing the deputy, Dean is said to have run away on foot, resulting in the officer chasing after him.
After catching up to Dean, the man is said to have fought with the officer- allegedly attempting to strike him with a metal object.
During a search of the man’s vehicle, officers discovered a plastic bag containing meth, a set of digital scales, a small amount of marijuana, three used meth pipes, and several needles.
Dean now faces charges of fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is currently being held in the Knox County Detention Center.
