Firefighters with the Monticello Fire Department responded to a Fire Alarm/Water Flow Alarm at the Wayne County Public Library over the weekend, where firefighters discovered roughly 5,000 gallons of water dumped on the library floor and throughout the building.
When firefighters arrived on scene on Saturday, they discovered that a water line had busted which caused water to flow through the building. The water from the busted line damaged over 3,000 books in the library. Firefighters, with the assistance from three Wayne County Detention Center inmate workers, pushed the water out of the building using squeegees and rollers. It took over three hours to push all the water out of the library.
