Now, an update from the Monticello Police Department:
At approximately 6:47 p.m. Saturday (Dec 31st) a three-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of KY 92 and KY 90 bypass, commonly referred to as the “Beldon intersection”.
An investigation by Officer Jeramy Thompson and Lt. Josh Asberry determined the chain-reaction collision happened when a 2013 Hyundai Elantra being driven by Fernando Berdecia of Monticello was attempting to make a left turn from KY 92 onto KY 90 eastbound, pulling into the path of a 2022 Kia Forte’ operated by Alice Miller, 46, of Monticello, as the Miller vehicle was traveling through the intersection to continue going west on KY 92. The impact from the initial collision caused Berdecia’s car to go into a spin then collide with a stationary 2023 GMC Yukon Denali truck operated by William Campa of Bradenton, Florida. Campa was coming off West KY 92, waiting to also turn left onto KY 90 eastbound.
Three persons involved in the collisions were transported by Wayne County EMS personnel to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, all believed to be non-life threatening.
Alice Miller and her husband Randall were both transported by ambulance to the Wayne County Hospital emergency room while Bryan Cruz, 27, of Monticello, a passenger in Berdecia’s car, was transported by ambulance to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Berdecia and all six persons in the GMC truck escaped injury.
Berdecia was cited to appear in Wayne District Court for No Operators License and No Insurance.
