An update from the Elliott County Fiscal Court:
We’ve received several reports of a new rash of county road sign thefts. These signs are most likely being stolen by males, ages 15-23. These individuals are looking for a thrill and a trophy to show off. These individuals do not think far enough ahead to realize it could be their own family who may die, lose a home to fire, or suffer other catastrophic happenings because EMS, Fire, or Law Enforcement drives right by their road.
Furthermore, to replace 1 sign, it costs the county taxpayer over $100. This also takes our road crews and office personnel away from their regular daily duties in serving our citizens.
If you know someone who has been involved in stealing these signs, we ask you to contact the sheriff’s office at 606-738-5422, or the judge executive’s office at 606-738-5826. We do not need your name. You can even tell someone else who will make that call for you. Most of our citizens want the right thing to happen and have no issue making the call. We need the names of the parties involved.
