The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a phone scam of someone claiming to be a sheriff’s deputy.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root has reported that the phone scam has surfaced in Laurel County and the caller is advising citizens to pay money regarding a legal issue. The scammer will tell the potential victim to call 606-756-5567 to resolve the legal issue.

Those at the sheriff’s office are warning the public to not call that number. It is a scam to steal money from people. They ask those who receive the call to report it and to not give out personal information.

The sheriff’s office said that they will never call citizens on the phone demanding money regarding a case or an outstanding warrant. The phone scam is under investigation.
