The Wayne County Sheriff announced Tuesday that they have arrested two people during a traffic stop on drug related charges.

Shortly past midnight on January 31st, Deputies James Barnett and Allen Cash stopped a vehicle on East Kentucky 90 after noticing its trunk open with numerous items inside of it when it pulled out of a business. The deputies stopped the vehicle to tell the driver about the open trunk.

When deputies checked the vehicle registration, insurance and the driver’s license, they discovered the license was suspended and the insurance expired. Deputies were also informed by the Wayne County 911 Dispatch that the driver had 6 active arrest warrants on them.

Deputies placed the driver under arrest and discovered a large bag of what they believe to be methamphetamine during the search.

The female passenger of the vehicle refused to cooperate with police and resisted arrest. Deputies removed her from the vehicle and handcuffed her.

As deputies continued their search, they found a set of digital scales located in the console with a crystal substance residue on it. A small plastic container with a crystal substance was found inside the woman’s purse, along with a glass smoking pipe.

Michael Lyons of Bronston, KY was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked operator’s license,  and failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance.
