An update from the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department:
In the early morning hour, at 5:11am, Monday, February 13, 2023, a resident of the Clear Creek Community called in the sound of an explosion around the Smith Cemetery on Hwy 190.
The Clear Creek Company, Station 4, was the first Volunteer Firefighters to arrive on the scene. They began a search to locate the explosion, including contact with the caller, for further information.
On the narrow gravel road by the cemetery, discovered on fire was an automobile on the top and at the end of the road. The explosion sound heard by residents could have been a tire or some other object or equipment that exploded from heat and pressure.
Due to the location, no fire apparatus was able to drive to the site. Hand extinguishers were used to extinguish the automobile fire.
In addition to Clear Creek Company, Calloway and Right Fork Company’s responded with pumpers along with personnel from East Pineville and Colmar Company’s.
The Bell County Ky Sheriff’s Department responded and is handling the investigation.
