An update from Appalachia Fire Department, Company 3:

 

At 5:27 a.m. this morning (Friday, February 10th), the Appalachia and Big Stone Gap Fire Department were dispatched to a working fire in the 400 block of Callahan Ave. 

 

Upon arrival the first arriving company found heavy fire showing from the front of the home. An aggressive fire attack along with search and rescue was initiated. During the search a victim was located and pulled from the home by interior search crews. Fire and EMS personnel began immediate resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful.

At this time the scene and investigation of the fire has been turned over to the Virginia State Police and Wise County Sheriff’s Office.
