The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a current phone scam.

According to Sheriff John Root, the scammer will identify themself as 911 dispatch and will ask potential victims to provide their personal information.

The scammer is calling people from the number 606-310-0832. But officials say that the scam calls could also come from other phone numbers.

Due to programming loopholes, law enforcement cannot trace the numbers being used.

Root advises people to not provide any personal or financial information and to report the scam.
