A Monticello man was arrested Tuesday after police discovered drugs during a traffic stop.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced they arrested Stanley Carrol of Monticello following an air sniff around his vehicle, which led deputies to find a bag of crystal meth.

Deputies James Barnett and Derek Dennis noticed a vehicle following another vehicle to close. Deputies then noticed the vehicle crossing over the centerline on the highway numerous times. This led deputies to pull over the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Stanley Carrol, underwent a field sobriety test and passed. The Deputies asked the driver for consent to search the vehicle which Carrol declined. But, he consented to an air sniff from the K-9 unit.

The K-9 alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics. Deputies conducted a search and found a bag of a crystal substance in a front pants pocket. After an analysis, it was confirmed that it was 15 grams of crystal meth.

Carrol was arrested and charged with 1st degree trafficking in a controlled substance. He was also charged on 2 Wayne County District Court Warrants of Arrest.

He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center.
