
An update from the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office:
On Tuesday February 28th a jeep was reported stolen to KSP Post 10 Harlan from the Cumberland area. Deputies received a tip that the jeep was seen leaving the Putney area on Tuesday evening. Deputy Geary Ferguson was on patrol in Putney and was able to quickly spot the jeep traveling towards Harlan. Sergeant Charles Bailey responded with Deputy Ferguson to execute a traffic stop in Baxter while Harlan PD Lieutenant Mitch Alford, Harlan PD Officer Mike Lunsford and HCSO Chief Deputy Jason Adams set up to box-in the jeep to keep it from fleeing.
The jeep pulled off the road and the operator was arrested. The jeep was returned to the owner.
Caleb Crider was arrested by Deputy Geary Ferguson and charged with Theft by unlawful taking Auto as well as a FTA warrant for receiving stolen property.
