An update from the City of Monticello Police Department:

At approximately 2:45 p.m. Sunday (March 5) Monticello Police Officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart. Prior to their arrival, the female suspect shoved a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer and fled the store on foot.

Utilizing the description of the suspect and other information, Sherry Jones, 46, of Whitley City was located inside nearby Little Caesars and was taken into custody.

An investigation by Officer Jeramy Thompson, Officer Alex Jones and Lt. Josh Asberry resulted in Jones being charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container.

Officers located items reported stolen from Walmart and 18 Gabapentin tablets in Jones’ purse after it was found inside a restroom in Little Caesars.

The robbery charge is a result of Jones using force on a Loss Prevention Officer to flee Walmart. The burglary charge is a result of Jones having previously been banned from Walmart due to a prior shoplifting offense.

Additionally, Jones was served with a warrant for Failure to Appear in Pulaski District Court on January 18 of this year for a shoplifting charge in that county.

Jones was processed and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
