A woman who was being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville, is now facing additional charges after she allegedly attacked a guard.

The incident took place on Thursday and was captured on the detention center’s security camera.

A guard is said to have gone to Gipson’s cell, carrying a blanket. After opening the cell door, 43-year-old Angel Gipson, of Salyersville, allegedly attempted to force her way out of the cell.

When the guard started to hold Gipson back, Gipson began hitting her in the face and head, then started to choke her. The guard managed to use her pepper spray on Gipson, but the struggle continued until another guard arrived to assist.

Gipson now faces charges of assaulting a corrections officer and strangulation. She remains at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
