A woman out of Pikeville has been arrested after law enforcement discovered she attacked her mother with a meat cleaver. Police received a call shortly after 5 pm on Tuesday of an attack in an apartment on Saad Avenue.

According to Police, they discovered the victim was standing in the living room while severely bleeding out of her left arm. The woman had two children with her. One of the children was covered in the woman’s blood

During an investigation, police learned that two women were in an argument over cleaning the apartment and a custody issue concerning the two kids. The argument escalated into 24 year old Katie Hurley allegedly hitting her mother’s arm with a meat cleaver. Hurley then fled the scene.

Police found Hurley a short time later when they spotted her driving on Hambley Boulevard. Hurley was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Hurley was placed in the Pike County Detention Center. She is facing 5 to 10 years in prison.
