arrest-8

A man out of Bell County was arrested yesterday after a high speed chase with police on his ATV.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Department arrested 47 year old Ricky G. Adkins yesterday following a high speed chase which ended in his surrender.

The chase started when police attempted to make a traffic stop on Adkins when they noticed he was traveling  on the shoulder of the roadway on an ATV. Adkins fled from deputies by traveling onto the roadway for over a mile and turning onto Old Bell High Road at a high rate of speed.

Adkins tried to stop abruptly which caused deputies to strike him or swerve into oncoming traffic. He turned off into the former Bell County Bus Garage parking lot and jumped from his ATV and ran on foot until he jumped into the Cumberland river. He surrendered a short time after. A syringe was found in the ATV.

Adkins was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), fleeing or evading (on foot), wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, buying or possessing drug paraphernalia, and ATV vehicle violations. He was also served on pre existing warrants. He was placed in the Bell County Detention Center.
