A mother in Bell County was arrested over the weekend in connection to the death of her 17-month old child.

21 year old Erica Lawson of Mt. Vernon was arrested Sunday in connection to the death of her 17 month old daughter. The toddler died on Sunday following a sexual assault case.

The child was brought to Middlesboro ARH Friday night after sustaining serious injuries. The child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Knoxville due to the severity of her injuries but she did not survive.The toddler passed away Sunday night.

Middlesboro Police opened an investigation following the child’s death and interviewed Lawson concerning the death of her baby daughter. Lawson was arrested by police and she has been charged with manslaughter, wanton endangerment, criminal abuse and failure to report child abuse.

Lawson was placed in the Bell County Detention Center. Police are expecting to make another arrest soon.
