Less than eight weeks after an Arlie Boggs Elementary School bus crashed in Letcher County, another incident happened on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the school hosted a reception, attended by Governor Andy Beshear, to show appreciation for the first responders that helped students get to safety. Then, during the morning route on Wednesday, a bus on the same route with nine students who were on the bus that crashed in January ran into a ditch to avoid hitting a coal truck head-on. The incident happened on U.S. 119 at a place nicknamed “Rocky Point”. None of the 19 students on the bus were injured in this incident and were taken to school on a secondary bus driven by Arlie Boggs principal Freddie Terry.
