A man from Prestonsburg was arrested recently after, police said, he set fire to a rental residence, then resisted arresting officers. According to an arrest citation written by Prestonsburg Police Officer Joshua Hinkle, on Feb. 23, he was dispatched to a fire at Lancer.
When Hinkle got there, he wrote that Prestonsburg Fire Chief Mike Brown and Capt. Michael Tussey was speaking with a guy about the fire named James Chadrick Burchett. Burchett is 20, and lived on Willow Lane, Prestonsburg.
The citation said Burchett told both Brown and Tussey that he poured gasoline in the living room and set fire to the residence. The citation stated the Burchett had said, in so many words, that he was mad and set the rental property on fire. When PPD officer Hinkle said he wanted to talk with Burchett, Burchett tried to run and Prestonsburg police chief Ross Shurtleff and officer Hinkle were able to catch up with Burchett and put him in the Floyd County Detention Center.
