A Prestonsburg man was arrested on several charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine, after a traffic stop on Feb. 24. According to an arrest citation written by Prestonsburg Police Officer Jason Arms, in the early morning hours, he conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Ford Escape on South Lake Drive for not having an illuminated rear license plate and the occupants not wearing seat belts. Prior to making the stop, Arms wrote, he followed the vehicle, which was swerving and made an abrupt turn into a parking lot as if they were attempting to avoid the officer. Arms wrote that he spoke with the passenger of the vehicle, ultimately identified as Brian K. Bertram, 53, of Prater Cemetery Road, but who initially gave a false name.
