A lawsuit was filed on Tuesday involving Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton who has been accused of verbal and physical sexual assault against a former city employee. The victim’s attorney filed the lawsuit in Floyd Circuit Court. According to the lawsuit obtained by WYMT, the lawsuit claims Stapleton sexually harassed the victim both verbally and physically by “engaging in severe, pervasive, inappropriate, and unwelcome sexual conduct.” The lawsuit claims Stapleton told the victim that her job security and benefits relied upon her willingness to obey his requests for sexual favors. According to the lawsuit, Stapleton reportedly requested sexual favors from the victim, which the victim felt obligated to do. According to the lawsuit, the victim was employed at the Mountain Arts Center at the time. The lawsuit claims that Stapleton’s reported conduct happened during business hours at the MAC and at city hall.
