The mayor of Prestonsburg has resigned amidst allegations of sexual and verbal misconduct towards a former city employee. Tuesday evening, a special city council meeting was called. Stapleton was not in attendance because of an injury he suffered a couple of weeks ago limiting his mobility. According to the lawsuit, the victim was employed at the Mountain Arts Center at the time. The lawsuit claims that Stapleton’s reported conduct happened during business hours at the MAC and at city hall. The city council appointed Rick Hughes as the interim mayor of Prestonsburg.
