Officials say police protection in Floyd County is at an all-time high since the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office began around-the-clock patrolling in late 2023. The fiscal court approved Williams’ request in July 2023 to give Sheriff John Hunt’s office $200,000 to increase patrols in the county. Hunt said his office started “almost immediately” after the fiscal court’s funding approval to put more boots on the ground and provide 24/7 protection. One thing Hunt noticed after adding more deputies and expanding patrol hours was the amount of drug activity that takes place in the early morning hours.
