Two men were arrested recently on drug trafficking charges in separate incidents.

According to an arrest citation written by Kentucky State Police Trooper Billy Ball, while on patrol on Ky. 114 in Prestonsburg on April 12 he saw a 2015 Dodge Dart traveling in the opposite lane and it went onto the center dividing lane with a path of travel in the trooper’s direction.

Ball wrote that, after making a traffic stop, he made contact with the driver, 55-year-old Ricky Don Carter, of Pikeville, who told the trooper he had worked all night in Lexington and had just fallen asleep. Carter refused to allow Trooper Ball to search the vehicle and Trooper called in Trooper Adam Hall who brought K9 officer Jax to the scene, Jax alerted to drugs and that gave them probable cause to search the Dart, and they recovered a small amount of cash as well as 9.25 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 2.4 grams of suspected fentanyl/heroin, 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine and quantities of prescription pills and paraphernalia.

Carter was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center. In a separate incident we reported on yesterday, Floyd County Sheriff’s deputy Allen May had radioed Prestonsburg Police Officer Jason Arms about a vehicle that he had spotted that had been involved in previous drug trafficking. Arms arrested 33-year-old Zachary Wayne Mason after Arms found fentanyl and crack cocaine.
