Kentucky State Police is investigating the death of a woman in Letcher County. Police said Trina Sandlin, 57, of Jeremiah, was found dead over an embankment on Doty Creek. Sandlin was reportedly walking to a neighbor’s home before the attack happened. Trooper Matt Gayheart said that Sandlin was walking to a neighbor’s house when she was apparently attacked by an animal, and while not necessarily common, it does happen. No foul play is suspected.
A Leslie County woman has been found safe after she was reported missing June 6th, Angela Napier was located and safe according to KSP Trooper Shane Jacobs.
A Letcher County man is in jail after court records claim he crashed his motorcycle while running from police. A Whitesburg police officer spotted Hayden Andrew Sandlin, 23, of Whitesburg, run a red light on his Harley Davidson. The officer relayed the information to a Letcher County sheriff’s deputy, who got behind the bike to pull it over. The police report says Sandlin sped away instead, prompting a chase along U.S. 119. The police report notes Sandlin was weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at speeds close to 90 mph. As the motorcycle approached the U.S. 23 interchange, it hit a patch of grass clippings in the road and crashed, causing road rash and minor injuries to Sandlin and his passenger. Police say Sandlin then tried to run away, but he was tackled and arrested. The police report notes that as officers tried to put handcuffs on him, Sandlin backhanded a deputy with his injured hand, getting blood on the deputy’s face and in his mouth. He was arrested for wanton endangerment, fleeing police, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and other charges.
Big Sandy Community and Technical College announced on May 28 the appointment of Jeremy Goodson as the new dean of student services effective June 3. Goodson, according to a statement from BSCTC, brings a wealth of experience and a diverse educational background to BSCTC. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Liberty University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pikeville and a Bachelor of Science in History from U Pike. His career encompasses a blend of education and business, with a strong focus on management and teamwork.
A woman from Inez is facing charges after her toddler was found wandering alone on a highway, according to Martin County Sheriff John Kirk. The incident occurred when the 2-year-old escaped from home and was seen running along Route 40 near its intersection with Route 645 on the evening of May 29. Passing motorists, including a woman returning home from work in Prestonsburg, intervened to stop the child from entering the intersection. The child’s mother, 34-year-old Samantha Adkins, learned the toddler had left the home and came looking for it. The three children were removed from the home. Kirk arrested Adkins on charges of second-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
