Yesterday at 4:50pm Summer officially started; I think we got that early warning shot a few weeks back. Sunshine and high temperatures continue into the weekend, we’ll talk weather in a few moments

We talk about police busting meth dealers all the time, x number of ounces usually, but this is a scale buster. 45-year-old Edward Carl Ramey of Paintsville had his home raided by Kentucky State Police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s office after the agencies got a search warrant and the law enforcement teams found between 1 and 2 pounds of meth and several thousand dollars. If Ramey is convicted, he’s looking at between 5-10 years behind bars. He was being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

During a special called meeting on June 17, the Paintsville City Council adopted its working budget for Fiscal Year 2025, with a projected increase of revenues of approximately $500,000. This would bring the city’s projected revenues up from approximately $11,005,698 in FY 2024 to approximately $11,563,780 in FY 2025. The revenue increase, according to the budget provided, will stem largely from recently passed increases in occupational taxes, which the budget shows moving from approximately $1.95 million to approximately $2.41 million between the fiscal years.

Eight Prestonsburg High School graduating seniors were recently awarded a total of $80,000 in scholarships from the TEK Center in Inez. Each of the recipients received $10,000 fully paid scholarships that will cover everything from books, fees, tools, personal protective equipment and tuition.

Tenants at the Mayfair Village Apartments in Paintsville said they feel frustrated, forgotten, and fed up. Those who live there said the complex and property, which is managed by an out-of-state group, also has an out-of-state manager. For months, they say, speaking to someone about their concerns or getting someone in the area to fix their problems has been “impossible.” Habitable housing is important, well, for a group of residents in Johnson County Kentucky, it seems like a far cry from habitable, ceilings falling in, walls that are past dilapidated and a general feeling of defeat all run together to create what is called a mess. Reaching out to the managements agency hasn’t produced any results either.

A Jackson resident created a petition to demand the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter president resign. The petition created by Kelly Hudson is titled, “Demand for Resignation of Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter’s Current President.” According to the petition on change.org, Hudson wrote under the ‘Why the Petition Matters’ column, “As people deeply concerned about our furry friends in Hazard, KY, USA, our hearts remain heavy from the disturbing reality that our local animal shelter has been severely mismanaged under the incumbent president.”
