A Martin man is facing charges after police were dispatched to a Family Dollar that had reportedly been broken into in the Betsy Layne community. On July 6, an employee called 911, stating that the front door window had been broken and that she did not know if anyone was inside. According to the arrest citation, police found Billy Lee Akers, 33, lying in an isle in the back of the store after police cleared the building. Akers told police he did not know how he got into the building or if he was by himself. Police later found a large rock in the front part of the building, which was used to break through the front glass. The store manager said that there was video of Akers breaking into the store. Akers was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary.

 

18-year-old Anthony Stidham, and 20-year-old Braxton Marlowe were the names of the two people that died after an argument that started on a strip job early Wednesday morning in Perry County. Stidham and Marlowe were pronounced dead at approximately 4 a.m. Both were sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advise drivers of delays and lanes being closed for a portion of KY-15. According to officials, the work started on Wednesday at mile point 4.0, which is near the Carr Creek Lake Bridge. Those operations will run through mile point 9.3, which is near the Knott County/Perry County line. KYTC officials said the work will happen from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through July 19.

Prestonsburg High School had a ribbon cutting on the revamped football field and track yesterday, mayor Rick Hughes spoke on the importance of working together. Superintendent Anna Shepherd reiterated it’s all about the students, and new head football coach Wes Hager said he had been overwhelmed by the support, and as for the new field.

From missing to murdered, the disappearance and death of Wesley Hook has left his family waiting for justice four years later. Hook went missing in June 2020 from Pikeville at the age of 30. His remains were found burned in his car the next month. Since then, Krystle Williams and Eric Deleon- two of the people convicted for roles in his kidnaping and death- have been sentenced to time in prison. Tuesday, the third person indicted was also sentenced for his role in the murder. Enos Little was sentenced to 15 years- ten years for second degree assault and five years for conspiracy to kidnap- on top of the five years he was sentenced in Pike County.  Wes’ mother, Barabara says she wants to keep sharing her son’s story and keep their names out of the mix moving forward.
