FLOYD COUNTY, KY -Eastern Kentucky communities are gearing up for Halloween, as several counties announce official trick-or-treat times for local
families. Residents of Floyd, Pike, Johnson, Martin, Magoffin, and Knott counties can mark their calendars for Thursday, October 30th, with festivities set to run
from 6 to 8 PM. Local officials encourage everyone to watch for young trick-or-treaters on the roads and keep neighborhoods safe for families enjoying the
holiday. Whether handing out candy or strolling door to door, community members are reminded that Halloween offers a special chance to come together,
celebrate, and make lasting memories in the heart of the mountains.

FLOYD COUNTY, KY – A man is dead after a logging accident in Floyd County. Deputies responded to the Wilson Creek area of Langley around 10:45 Monday morning. Authorities say Dusty Lee Hall, age 33, of Harold, was killed in the incident. No other details have been released at this time. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are investigating the accident.

PIKEVILLE, KY – A noise complaint Friday night led to an arrest in Pikeville. Police took Billy R. Yates, 26, into custody just before midnight after responding to Kentucky Avenue. Officers say Yates was operating a vehicle under the influence, driving recklessly, and causing criminal mischief. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, driving on a suspended license, and improper equipment. Yates became belligerent during the arrest, headbutting a patrol car and shattering a window. He refused medical treatment and was taken to Pike County Detention Center

PRESTONSBURG, KY – Kentucky residents needing to renew their driver’s license or upgrade to a Real ID have an extra opportunity this weekend. All Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Driver Licensing Regional Offices will be open Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. for walk-in service—no appointment needed. The Real ID is required for air travel and entry to federal facilities. Driver and permit testing are not available at these offices. ESTONSBURG, KY – Facing delayed federal funds due to the government shutdown, the Floyd County Board of Education voted to use $230,000 from its contingency fund to keep Head Start running through November and December. Superintendent Tonya Williams said the decision ensures salaries and lunches for the months ahead. Board members emphasized the importance of putting kids first, adding that reimbursement for November is expected, but December’s funding may need to be revisited if the shutdown continues.
